Crafting Guide

As crafting is a new area for one of my muds and is a bit different than some typical midieval-based games, I thought I would make a general guide for CoG particulars.

Makeclothing

Level One General Skill

Requires: needle tool, skin/hide/fur/pelt

Guidelines: Clothing is minimal protection that can be made for FEET, LEGS, ARMS, BODY or ABOUT locations.

Because of the nature of CoG, only specific wear locations and very specific clothing types will be permitted. Crafting, in general, allows for a good deal of personalization with a finished project's name and apparent description but inappropriately described items will *not* be permitted. I don't want to see anachronistic clothing styles being designed and/or worn, period. That being said, some helpful guidelines for what are considered appropriate base terms follow:

Feet:boots, footwraps

Arms: armwraps, armguards

Legs: legwraps, kilt, skirt, loincloth

Body: tunic, wrapping

About: mantle, shawl, wrap, covering, drape

Keep in mind that these are BASE item descriptions. A crafter should feel free to include the material type (wolfskin, mammoth-fur, etc.), the quality and any general details with an item's name. Nothing is stopping a crafter from lying about the material type, though I would like to think that they would tend not to.

Variations and/or additions to the above list of acceptable base clothing types can be approved by an immortal if there is any doubt about it.

Makecontainer

Level One General Skill

Requires: needle tool, hide/skin/fur/pelt

Containers are items that can be made to hold more items and will tend to be sacks, bags, pouch, satchels, small sacks, etc. Backpacks, rucksacks and tailored containers are not acceptable container types. Containers can be kept in general inventory or worn in the back or hold location.

Makedrink

Level One General Skill

Requires: sharp stone/tool, gourd

Right now, gourds can be hollowed out and made into liquid containers. I will likely be making a quality of hide and/or bone that can also be used. If a player wants to restring the description on a gourd created drink container, that is fine.

Makeengraving

Level One General Skill

Requires: hard rock, flint stone

This skill creates a tool that is then used to craft jewelry. It is essentially a very small pointed tool used to engrave fine detail into stone, bone, antlers, etc.

Makefire

Level One General Skill

Requires: small stone, pointed stick, tinder

This skill creates a usable campfire which serves as both a light source and a tool for cooking. Strings can be things like "campfire," "bonfire," simply "fire," etc.

Makejewelry

Level One General Skill

Locations: neck, wrist, ears

Requires: engraving tool, bone/antler/decorative stone, needle tool, sharp tool

Jewelry is basically a crafted item that can be used for personalizing oneself, gifts for othes or to create heirloom items. At present there are no inherent benefits for jewelry but I may put bonuses on specific types of material/stone types in the future

String descriptions for jewelry can be *very* creative and I expect them to be so. Descriptions of patterns, artistic designs and animal motifs are some ideas.

Makeknife

Level One General Skill

Requires: hard rock, flint stone

This craft creates the basic small melee weapon. Flint will be a common base material to work on and I may include other knappable stone types in the future.

Makeneedle

Level One General Skill

Requires: sharp stone/tool, fish bone

This craft creates a tool used for fashioning clothing and containers, whether hide-based or woven fibers. It will be assumed that "thread" or similar material is part of this tool's usage.

Makesharp

Level One General Skill

Requires: hard rock, flint stone

This craft creates a "sharp" tool in the vein of historical stone handaxes and cutting instruments. It is used for many other craft skills.

Makespear

Level One General Skill

Requires: branch, sharp stone/tool, bone/antler

Spears are a very common weapon used for hunting and self defense and are most popular for use with the throwing skill. Bones and antler pieces from beasts are commonly used for spearheads but some stones may also be used.

Makeremedy

Level Ten Shamanic Skill

Requires:

Makepoison

Level Fifteen Shamanic Skill

Requires:

Maketorch

Level One General Skill

Requires: branch, tinder

This skill is used to create a portable light source object with a limited lifespan. A torch hasa chance to become a campfire if dropped.

Makevision

Level Thirty Shamanic Skill

Requires:

Paragraph.
